Chester, VA
Chester has a bit of everything. Around the historic center and Chester Village Green there are older homes with mature oaks and maples that have been growing for decades. Off Route 10, Route 1 and Ecoff Avenue there are neighborhoods built in the 70s, 80s and 90s, where the pines left in the yards are now the tallest thing on the street. Toward the James River, places like Rivers Bend sit on lots that back up to woods and water.
In the older parts of Chester, the work is mostly about big trees near houses: deadwood out of old oaks, limbs lifted off roofs, and the occasional removal of a tree that has started to decline. In the newer neighborhoods it is pines, sweetgums and pears planted too close. Near the rivers, wind and wet soil make storm damage the main concern.
Chester is a short drive from our Richmond base, which makes it easy to come out, look at the trees and give you a written price.

What we do here
Good to know
Chester sits between the James and Appomattox rivers, and properties near the water or along creeks can fall inside Chesapeake Bay Resource Protection Areas, where clearing vegetation is restricted. For a normal tree in a residential yard away from the water, a permit is usually not needed. Near the water, check with Chesterfield County first.
Neighborhoods like Rivers Bend have HOAs with their own guidelines for tree removal, so a quick check with the association before the job avoids problems.
Wind storms hit the river corridor hard. Having tall trees near the house looked at before hurricane season is worth doing.
