MG Tree Service removes and trims trees, grinds stumps and clears brush for homeowners in Woodlake, the lakeside community in Chesterfield County near Swift Creek Reservoir. Woodlake lots are heavily wooded, so most jobs involve tall pines and hardwoods close to homes, decks and driveways.
Woodlake, VA
Woodlake was built into the woods around Swift Creek Reservoir, and much of the original forest was left standing between the houses. That is what makes the neighborhood feel the way it does, and it is also why tree work here is so common. Tall pines and hardwoods grow right up against decks, driveways and rooflines, and many of them were never pruned after the houses went up.
The calls we get from Woodlake are usually about risk: a pine that leans toward the house, a dead oak at the edge of the drive, limbs over the roof that drop every time the wind picks up. After storms, it is broken tops and trees resting on other trees. Most of these jobs need climbing and rigging, because there is rarely an open spot to drop a tree in one piece.
We also help owners open up their lots a bit: removing a few crowded trees to let light reach the lawn, clearing understory brush and grinding the stumps afterward.

What we do here
Good to know
Woodlake has a community association with guidelines for exterior changes, and tree removal can fall under them, especially for larger trees and trees near the water or common areas. Check with the association before scheduling a removal.
Swift Creek Reservoir is a drinking water source, and areas near the water and streams can have extra protection under Chesterfield County and Chesapeake Bay rules. If the tree is close to the shoreline or a stream, ask the county or the HOA what applies before any clearing.
Trees in common areas and along the shoreline paths belong to the association, not the homeowner. If one of those worries you, report it to the HOA.
