MG Tree Service removes and trims trees, grinds stumps and clears overgrown lots in Hopewell. Many Hopewell homes sit on older city lots with large, mature trees close to the house, and the river location means wind storms are a real concern.
Hopewell, VA
Hopewell is a small, independent city on a bluff where the Appomattox River runs into the James. Its residential streets grew up in the early and middle 1900s, and many homes have trees that are as old as the house: big oaks, maples, sycamores and pecans that have never had real care.
Older trees on older lots mean a specific kind of work. There is usually limited room around the tree, roots have spread under walks and foundations, and decades of storms have left dead limbs and old wounds. Some trees can be saved with good pruning. Others have reached the point where removal is the safer choice.
Hopewell also has its share of vacant and overgrown lots, where brush and volunteer trees took over. Clearing those lots and grinding the stumps is a common request from owners getting ready to build, sell or simply clean up.

What we do here
Good to know
Being right on two rivers, Hopewell catches strong wind from storms moving up the James. Big trees with dead limbs or heavy lean toward the house are worth looking at before the summer storm and hurricane season.
Trees between the sidewalk and street are often city trees. Report those to the City of Hopewell. For a normal tree on a private residential lot, a permit is usually not needed, but properties near the rivers can fall under Chesapeake Bay protection rules, so check with the city before clearing near the water.
Older city lots often have narrow access. We plan where the truck and chipper go at the estimate so the job runs smoothly.
